49ers sign Corey Bojorquez to practice squad
The San Francisco 49ers have signed punter Corey Bojorquez to their practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.
Bojorquez, 29, has punted in 82 career games over six seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. He has 629 career punts for an average of 44.6 yards per punt, with 196 of his punts landing inside the 20-yard line.
Bojorquez was a Pro Bowl selection in 2020, when he led the NFL with a 49.3-yard punting average. He also led the league in punts inside the 20-yard line that season with 34.
The 49ers released punter Mitch Wishnowsky on Monday to make room for Bojorquez on the roster. Wishnowsky had punted in 52 games over four seasons with the 49ers, averaging 46.5 yards per punt with 127 punts inside the 20-yard line.
The 49ers are hoping that Bojorquez can provide some stability to their punting game. Wishnowsky had a solid season in 2022, but he struggled with consistency at times. Bojorquez has a proven track record of success, and he should be a valuable addition to the 49ers' special teams unit.
