Babar Azam's blistering knock puts Pakistan in command

Babar Azam struck a hat-trick of boundaries in the third over bowled by Sean Abbott to give Pakistan a flying start in their chase of 163. The Pakistan captain, who was dropped on 1 by Aaron Finch at mid-off, made the most of his reprieve and raced to 26 off 14 balls before he was dismissed by Nathan Ellis in the fifth over.

Mohammad Rizwan, who was promoted to open the batting in place of the injured Fakhar Zaman, also played his part with a brisk 23 off 18 balls before he was caught behind off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood.

Haseebullah sets the tone for Pakistan

Opener Haseebullah set the tone for Pakistan's innings with a quickfire 23 off 17 balls at the start of the innings.

The right-hander struck three fours and a six during his stay at the crease, and his dismissal in the fourth over did not slow down Pakistan's scoring rate.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then took over and put on a 48-run partnership for the second wicket before Rizwan was dismissed in the fifth over.

Pakistan in a strong position

Pakistan are in a strong position at the halfway stage of their chase, with Babar Azam and Shan Masood at the crease.

The pair have already put on 34 runs for the third wicket, and they will be confident of chasing down the target with plenty of overs to spare.

Australia, on the other hand, will need to take wickets quickly if they are to have any chance of winning the match.
