Former conference foes Cal, USC face off in Los Angeles
Pac-12 foes to meet for nonconference game at historic Coliseum
First meeting between schools since 2013
Former Pac-12 foes California and USC will face off in a nonconference game at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sept. 9, 2023, the schools announced Wednesday.
The game will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2013, when USC won 27-13 in Berkeley.
Cal and USC were charter members of the Pac-12, and the two schools have a long and storied rivalry.
The Golden Bears lead the all-time series 40-33-5, but the Trojans have won the last two meetings.
The game will be a homecoming of sorts for Cal coach Justin Wilcox, who was a standout linebacker at USC from 1995 to 1998.
“It’s going to be a special moment for me to go back to the Coliseum,” Wilcox said. “I have a lot of great memories there, and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces.”
USC coach Lincoln Riley is also excited about the matchup.
“Cal is a great program with a lot of tradition,” Riley said. “We’re looking forward to the challenge of playing them in a nonconference game.”
The game will be televised on Fox.
