Hampshire's Rossouw powers Guyana Amazon Warriors to victory over Trinbago Knight Riders
Rossouw's blistering 72 off 40 balls helps Amazon Warriors chase down 164 with five balls to spare
The left-hander struck five fours and six sixes in his match-winning knock
Guyana Amazon Warriors opener Rilee Rossouw produced a blistering innings of 72 off 40 balls to power his side to a five-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 164, the Amazon Warriors were in trouble at 51 for 3 in the ninth over, but Rossouw and Shimron Hetmyer (32) put on a crucial 88-run stand for the fourth wicket to revive the innings.
Rossouw was particularly severe on the Knight Riders spinners, taking 24 runs off Sunil Narine's second over and 18 runs off Akeal Hosein's third over.
The left-hander reached his half-century in just 26 balls and went on to strike five fours and six sixes in his match-winning knock.
Hetmyer provided good support with a 27-ball 32, while Keemo Paul (19 not out) and Romario Shepherd (14 not out) saw the Amazon Warriors home with five balls to spare.
Earlier, the Knight Riders had posted a competitive 163 for 6 thanks to a half-century from captain Kieron Pollard (51) and a late cameo from Andre Russell (25 not out).
Pollard hit four fours and two sixes in his 35-ball knock, while Russell smashed three sixes in his 11-ball blitz.
The Amazon Warriors bowlers did a good job to restrict the Knight Riders to a manageable total, with Imran Tahir (2 for 23) and Odean Smith (2 for 27) picking up two wickets each.
The win takes the Amazon Warriors to the top of the CPL standings with eight points from four matches, while the Knight Riders remain in third place with six points from four matches.
