Long-time Nuclear Negotiator: Iran could Produce 'Dozens' of Nukes in 'Short Time'

An Iranian government analyst predicted that Iran could produce “dozens” of nuclear weapons in a “short time” if there was a political decision to do so. Emad Abshenas — an analyst for Iran’s state-run Press TV — made the comments Sunday, October 16, on “The Truthseeker with Bob Anderson,” an online show that frequently hosts guests with ties to the Iranian regime.

Analyst: We Don't Have Nuclear Weapons but We Can Make Them If We Want

In response to Anderson’s claim that Western nations were becoming nervous about Iran’s nuclear program, Abshenas stated that Iran didn’t have any nuclear weapons — but implied that they could produce them if they wanted to.

“I hear sometimes even from the Western media, they are saying that Iran is on its way to make an atomic bomb, build an atomic bomb, or to produce nuclear weapons,” Abshenas said. “Well, let me tell you, we don’t have that on our agenda. We don’t have nuclear weapons … If we wanted to do that, the way was open for us.

“We are capable of producing as many nuclear weapons as we want in a short time. And this is something that we can do. But this is not on our political agenda,” he asserted.

US: Iran Is Lying

The United States and its allies have long accused Iran of lying about its nuclear program, and of seeking to build a nuclear weapon. In 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal with the US and other world powers, in which Iran agreed to limit its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the US withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 under the Trump administration, and Iran has since begun to increase its nuclear activities.

Israel and Ukraine and the Democrats Have Greater Motive to Kill Trump

Abshenas also claimed that Ukraine, Israel, and the Democratic Party had greater motives to assassinate former President Donald Trump than Iran did.

“It could be the Democrats themselves inside the United States who wanted to get rid of Trump,” he said. “It could be the Israelis who wanted to get rid of Trump because they were very angry with him.”

“The Ukrainians could be involved, because they believed that Trump was very friendly with the Russians,” he added.

The Democratic National Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Abshenas’s allegation.

There is no evidence that any of the groups Abshenas mentioned were involved in the assassination attempt on Trump.
