Italy's Donnarumma thankful for Mbappe absence in France showdown
Euro 2020 Goalkeeper of the Tournament grateful for France talisman's suspension
Donnarumma says Italy are 'more relaxed' without Mbappe in the France team
Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has admitted he is relieved that Kylian Mbappe will not be featuring for France in Wednesday's Nations League semi-final.
Mbappe was sent off in the 56th minute of France's 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday, meaning he will be suspended for the clash with Italy.
Donnarumma, who was named Euro 2020 Goalkeeper of the Tournament, said that Mbappe's absence will make Italy's task easier.
"It's certainly better for us that Mbappe is not playing," Donnarumma told reporters. "He's one of the best players in the world and he can change a game on his own.
"We're more relaxed now that we know he won't be playing."
Mbappe has scored 26 goals in 54 appearances for France, and has been one of the most in-form players in the world over the past few years.
His absence will be a major blow to France, and Donnarumma believes it could give Italy the edge in the semi-final.
"We know that France are a very good team, even without Mbappe," Donnarumma added. "But his absence will definitely make us more confident.
"We're going into the game with a lot of belief, and we're determined to reach the final."
Italy are the reigning European champions, and they will be looking to add the Nations League title to their trophy cabinet.
They will face a tough test against France, but Donnarumma believes that Italy have the quality to win the tournament.
"We have a very good team, and we're capable of beating anyone on our day," Donnarumma said. "We're going to give it our all to win the Nations League."
