Jets, Colts Trade 2018
Jets Acquire QB Sam Darnold
The New York Jets acquired quarterback Sam Darnold from the Indianapolis Colts in a trade that was completed on April 3, 2018. The Jets sent the Colts the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, as well as a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Colts selected quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and he has been the Colts' starting quarterback ever since. However, Luck missed the entire 2017 season due to a shoulder injury. He is expected to be ready for the 2018 season, but the Colts decided to trade Darnold to the Jets in order to get a higher draft pick.
Colts Acquire Draft Picks
The Colts received the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft from the Jets in the trade. The Colts used the pick to select guard Quenton Nelson from Notre Dame. Nelson is considered to be one of the best guards in the draft, and he is expected to be a starter for the Colts for many years to come. The Colts also received a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft from the Jets. The Colts can use this pick to select another player to help them improve their team.
Analysis
The trade is a good move for both the Jets and the Colts. The Jets get a young, talented quarterback in Darnold, who they hope can be their franchise quarterback for many years to come. The Colts get a high draft pick that they can use to select a player who can help them improve their team. The trade is a win-win for both teams.
