The former Test captain wants to make an immediate impact following his recall to the Australian squad.

Mitchell Johnson has made a strong case for a full-time return to the Australian Test side with another impressive performance for South Coast Group (SCG) in the Illawarra XXXX League.

The left-armer took 3-20 from eight overs as SCG defeated Wollongong by 108 runs at Figtree Oval on Saturday.

It was Johnson's second three-wicket haul in as many matches since returning from Australia's tour of South Africa.

The 35-year-old was recalled to the national squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Pakistan, and he is determined to make the most of his opportunity.

"I'm feeling good and I'm bowling well," Johnson said. "I'm just trying to get my rhythm back and get my confidence up. I'm hoping to get a few more wickets in the next few weeks and push my case for a spot in the Test team." Johnson's return to form is a timely boost for Australia, who are looking to regain the Allan Border Trophy from Pakistan. The first Test starts in Brisbane on December 15. "I'm just taking it one day at a time," Johnson said. "I'm not getting too far ahead of myself. I'm just trying to bowl well and take wickets. If I can do that, I'll hopefully get my chance at Test level." Johnson's performance for SCG was all the more impressive considering he was playing on a green wicket that was offering assistance to the bowlers. "It was a good wicket to bowl on," Johnson said. "It was a bit up and down, but I was able to get some good rhythm going." Johnson's teammates were full of praise for his performance. "He's a world-class bowler," said SCG captain Matt McAndrew. "He's got that X-factor that can change a game in an instant. We're lucky to have him in our team." Johnson's return to form is a welcome sight for Australian cricket fans. He is one of the most experienced and successful bowlers in the country, and his presence in the Test team will give the side a much-needed boost.
