Lions rule out TE Sam LaPorta
Detroit Lions’ tight end Sam LaPorta was ruled out for the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to an ankle injury.
LaPorta suffered the injury during the Lions’ Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was limited in practice this week and was ultimately ruled out on Saturday.
LaPorta is a key part of the Lions’ offense, and his absence will be a big blow. He is the team’s second-leading receiver with 18 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown. He is also a good blocker, which helps the Lions’ running game.
With LaPorta out, the Lions will likely turn to T.J. Hockenson as their starting tight end. Hockenson is a Pro Bowl tight end, and he will be expected to step up in LaPorta’s absence.
The Lions will also need to find a way to replace LaPorta’s blocking ability. They could use a fullback or a bigger receiver to help block, or they could simply adjust their offensive scheme to account for LaPorta’s absence.
The Lions are hoping that LaPorta will be able to return to action soon. However, they will need to find a way to win without him in the meantime.
