Mahomes, Chiefs set to use first loss as 'fuel'
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said the team's first loss of the season will be used as motivation going forward.
The Chiefs lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-24 in Week 13, their first loss since Week 1 of the 2021 season.
“It’s definitely frustrating to lose, but we’re going to use this as fuel moving forward,” Mahomes said after the game. “We know we’re a good team, and we’re going to learn from our mistakes and get better.”
The Chiefs have a bye in Week 14, which will give them time to rest and prepare for their next game against the Denver Broncos on December 18.
“We’re going to take this bye week to get healthy and get our minds right,” Mahomes said. “We’re going to come back ready to play and make a run in the playoffs.”
The Chiefs are currently 9-3 and in first place in the AFC West. They have a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chiefs have won the AFC West in each of the past six seasons. They have also reached the AFC Championship Game in each of the past four seasons.
The Chiefs are hoping to reach the Super Bowl for the third time in four seasons this year.
