More severe thunderstorms forecast for KZN

Localised flooding, lightning and hail expected in parts of the province
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), with localised flooding, lightning and hail expected in parts of the province.
The warning is valid until 23:00 on Wednesday, 22 February 2023, and affects the following areas:
- Zululand
- uThukela
- uMgungundlovu
- uMzinyathi
- iMfolozi
- uPhongolo
The SAWS has advised residents to be aware of the following risks:
- Localised flooding of roads and low-lying areas
- Lightning strikes
- Hail damage
- Strong winds
Residents are urged to take the following precautions:
- Stay indoors if possible
- Avoid driving through flooded areas
- Be aware of the dangers of lightning and hail
- If you are caught in a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a sturdy building or vehicle
- Listen to the radio or television for updates on the weather situation
The SAWS will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
