Nets' Jordi Fernandez Discusses Trendon Watford's Return to the Court

Catalan Forward Comments on Watford's Performance After Completing Recovery From Hip Surgery

Watford Returned to Action in Nets' Preseason Loss to Bucks

Brooklyn Nets forward Jordi Fernandez believes Trendon Watford's return to the court will be a major boost for the team after the young forward completed his recovery from hip surgery.

Watford made his preseason debut in the Nets' 119-115 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, playing 15 minutes and finishing with six points and five rebounds.

Fernandez, who is also a native of Spain, said he was impressed with what he saw from Watford in his first game back.

"I think he's going to be a really good player for us," Fernandez said. "He's got a lot of potential, and he's worked really hard to get back from his injury."

Watford was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 31st overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Nets in February 2023 as part of the deal that sent Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.

Watford underwent hip surgery in April 2023 and missed the rest of the 2022-23 season. He has been working his way back from the injury ever since and is now ready to contribute to the Nets.

"I'm just happy to be back on the court," Watford said. "I've been working really hard to get back, and it feels good to be back out there playing with my teammates."

The Nets are hoping that Watford can provide a much-needed boost to their frontcourt. The team is thin at the power forward position, and Watford could be a valuable piece in their rotation.

"He's a big, physical guy who can rebound and defend," Fernandez said. "He's also a good passer and shooter. I think he's going to be a really good addition to our team."

The Nets will open the regular season on October 19th against the New Orleans Pelicans. Watford is expected to play a significant role for the team this season.
