Sri Lanka Cricket Team Lost ODI Series to Afghanistan
Sri Lanka's Poor Batting Form Continues
The Sri Lankan cricket team has lost a One Day International (ODI) series to Afghanistan, marking the first time that Afghanistan has defeated a full-member nation in a bilateral ODI series. Afghanistan won the series 2-1, with Sri Lanka winning only the first match of the three-match series.
Sri Lanka's loss is a continuation of their poor form in recent months, having also lost Test and T20I series to England and India earlier this year. Captain Kusal Mendis has expressed his disappointment with the team's performance and said they need to improve their batting form.
Mendis Blames Batting Collapse for Series Loss
Mendis said he was "very disappointed" with the team's batting performance, which he described as "a bit naive." He said the batsmen need to be more disciplined and patient at the crease.
"We just didn't apply ourselves at the crease," Mendis said. "We need to be more disciplined and patient. We can't just keep throwing our wickets away."
Mendis also said the team needs to improve its fielding, which he said has been "sloppy" at times.
"We need to be better in the field," Mendis said. "We've been dropping too many catches and missing too many run-outs. We need to be more disciplined in the field and make sure we're giving ourselves a chance to win games."
Sri Lanka Needs to Regroup and Prepare for Asia Cup
Sri Lanka will now have a few weeks to regroup and prepare for the Asia Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates in September. Mendis said the team will need to use this time to address their weaknesses and improve their performance.
"We need to use this time to regroup and prepare for the Asia Cup," Mendis said. "We need to work on our batting and fielding and make sure we're ready to compete against the best teams in Asia."
