Rangers Extend Winning Streak to Four Games
The New York Rangers continued their hot streak on Tuesday night, shutting out the Los Angeles Kings 4-0 at Madison Square Garden. Mika Zibanejad led the way for the Rangers with a hat trick, while Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves for the shutout.
The Rangers took an early lead in the first period when Zibanejad scored on a power play. The Rangers extended their lead in the second period when Kaapo Kakko scored a short-handed goal. Zibanejad added his second goal of the game later in the period to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.
The Kings had a chance to get back into the game in the third period when they went on a power play, but Shesterkin made several key saves to keep the Kings off the board. Zibanejad then completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal in the final minute of the game.
The win was the Rangers' fourth in a row, and it improved their record to 10-5-2. The Kings, meanwhile, fell to 8-7-2.
Zibanejad now has 10 goals on the season, which is tied for the lead in the NHL. Shesterkin has also been impressive in goal for the Rangers, posting a 2.15 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.
The Rangers will look to continue their winning streak on Thursday night when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Kings will return home to face the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.
